Greyhound Planet Day Día Mundial del Galgo |
|
Barcelona (ver plano) SOS Galgos joined together to celebrate the Greyhound Planet day in rememberance to all the greyhounds and galgos that are suffering around the world. Over 50 rescued galgos met up with their adopters and friends, in the Paseo de Potosí, in front of the Maquinista shopping mall on the afternoon of Saturday September 24th. Together, we walked with our galgos along the Besos river, which separates and unites both the city of Barcelona and the town of Santa Coloma, both of which still allow the exploitation and overcrowding of 700 greyhounds in conditions that do not abide by laws for the protection of animals. In memory of all the greyhounds and galgos that weren't there with us, whose fate was and still is to be used and abused and taken advantage of, SOS Galgos' president, Anna Clements, gave a small speech to those present to pay tribute to the many that in Barcelona and lots of other parts of Spain continue to suffer. We each let a balloon go, watching them disappear in the sky in honour of all the greyhouds and galgos and to say that they have rights and we shall be their voices.
Groups joining with us: GALT (Greyhound Adoption League of Texas) Adopt-a-greyhound of Northern Canada Mary Ann Moore - Missouri AEGA (Ameurogreyhoundalliance) Otros grupos que apoyan Greyhound Planet Day SOS Galgos is proud to have the support of international groups who care about the galgos. GALT (Greyhound Adoption League of Texas), adoption group in Dallas, US, will next month be taking back 4 of our galgos currently for adoption while in foster care in Madrid, and in their solidary spirit joined with us to celebrate the Greyhound Planet Day on Sunday 18th September in Dallas.Another fantastic group that have joined with the galgos are Adopt-a-greyhound of Northern Canada who organized a marathon with greyhounds (greyhound walkathon), a BBQ and several information booths to raise funds for three groups, one of them being SOS Galgos. We thank them from here, so far away, yet so close in spirit for the important cause. And we are so touched by the marvellous efforts of Mary Ann Moore , adopter of Chico in Missouri, who represented SOS Galgos in S t.
Louis Missouri, held a booth with information on the Spanish galgos;
sold items (key chains and ALL BETS ARE OFF books), and raffled off an Ossorio print
she had framed. Also she collected donations for the galgos.Chico was very excited...he hopes that next year, he will have a partner galga to help him in our booth! We are so proud of you Mary Ann for your great get up and go spirit. Thank you so much from the Galgos! |
