If and when a greyhound is to be placed in a foster home, a check is made to ensure that the dog does not suffer separation anxiety. If it does, we set about re-educating the animal to overcome this. You can also re-educate a greyhound to teach it basic hygiene habits and routines for urination and defecation whilst out walking, and also so that it learns that rummaging in rubbish and stealing food are not allowed – conduct that almost all the animals that have come in off the street have picked up out of necessity in order to survive.

At this stage the psychological evaluation of the animal is carried out with a view to identifying the most suitable adoption family according to the dog’s characteristics: dominant or submissive, active or passive, young or old, sociable or standoffish.

The recovery of a greyhound

The animals collected are taken to a residence or a shelter. There they begin to adapt to the new environment.

It’s important to observe their behavior, check the improvement and their growing confidence in the human being. They adapt to the routine in schedules (lunch and walk) as well as to the interrelation with other animals, dogs or cats, thus checking their reaction.
